Don't let the looks or the slogans fool you, they are just something to
suit the name of this site. Korgy Park is my attempt at making a resource
center for all owners of Korg X5 compatible synthesizers, which at the
moment are the X5, X5D X5DR, 05R/W and NS5R. This site is meant to be an
X5/05 site but the X5 sounds and songs should work with the NS5R too. As
you can notice, there are songs, sounds, software, links and some guides
on various X5 subjects. In addition, there are chances to get in touch with
other X5 users around the world.
2. Who Is behind Korgy Park?
Korgy Park exists because of a certain Mr. Janne Simonen and the
invaluable help he has received from people around the world.
Note that I have nothing to do with Korg Inc, apart from the fact that I
happen to own a Korg X5D synthesizer.
Korgy Park got started sometime in the fall of 1996. My main idea was to
make it an easy way to distribute my songs around the world because I was
tired of e-mailing them to everyone. Thus I put up a little page called "Songs
of Distant Janne" with a help of a friend (I was HTML illiterate). Of course I
had to put some sounds and
software on the page too,
along with the obligatory links
section. Then I got the idea of having other X5-composers to contribute their
songs for the page. I started advertising my page on some newsgroups and search
engines hoping to find new composers. And I did. Little by little people
contributed their songs for the page and because it was no longer only for my
songs, I had to change the name to Korgy Park (it just popped up into my mind).
Nowadays no new songs are published here, since MP3 is such a handy format.
Because people started asking me questions about the X5, I realized that I'd
have to write a FAQ or drown in
e-mail. So I did, and put some of my sequencing tips in it too. Since I
was still receiving questions, I invented the Beginner's Guide
and the Korg X5 Buyer's Guide.
The Korg X5 User List came to
be when I discovered how to do it with a guestbook perl-script I found on the net
and managed to edit to suit the purpose. I set up the
mailing list after the
demise of the X5 Jammers list.
The Korgy Park Forum was
finally created as a replacement for the User List for several reasons.
First, people on the User List were getting a lot of spam, which the Forum
eliminates, since it can hide the e-mail address and still allow you to
send e-mail to people. Second, it's a real discussion board with lots
of cool features like messaging, polling and user groups!
Lately nothing major has happened contentually, but I finally decided to
update the looks of the site, or actually asked a friend of mine to do it, as
graphic design seems to be one of his hobbies. The name of the site inspired
him for the color scheme you are seeing now. This update included also some
organizational changes, like individual pages for the above mentioned sections.
Of course I should mention the numerous contributions that I've received from
all you korgies around the world - sounds, software, links, information, questions
for the FAQ etc. Thank you folks, I couldn't have done Korgy Park without all of
you!
So what's up next with Korgy Park then? Nothing much is planned at the
moment since the site seems to work nicely as it is. I might add new
answers to the FAQ or something like that, but nothing major is coming up unless someone
persuades me to realize a cool idea of his.
5. How to Download Files from Korgy Park?
To download a file, just click on it with the left mousebutton. If your
screen fills with garbage (your browser thought that it was a text file
although it wasn't), then click on the file with the right mousebutton and
select "Save Link As...", or on a Mac, just hold down your mousebutton until a
window appears. If that doesn't work either, get the latest version of
Netscape or Internet Explorer, or ask me if the link is broken.
If you don't know how to unpack zip files, then you should get an
UnZip utility for your computer. www.download.com
is a great place for free software like that. I think you can find System
Exclusive utilities there too.
6. Are the Songs on Korgy Park Copyrighted?
In short, yes. If you are going to take someone else's song from Korgy Park
and publish it or play it publicly etc. then you MUST ask for the author's
permission first.
